qmail template files and directory's according 
lwq-v2000-09-23.pdf with the following enabled :

qmail-1.03
ucspi-tcp-0.88
daemontools-0.70
dot-forward-0.71
fastforward-0.51


installation :

create the qmail user and group id's first
and next do :

cd /var
tar xvzpf qmail-tmpl.tgz

make sure /var/log/qmail and /var/log/qmail/smtpd exists :

[wikiwork:root]:(~)# ls -ld /var/log/qmail
drwxr-xr-x  3 qmaill root 4096 Jul 29 14:35 /var/log/qmail/
[wikiwork:root]:(~)# ls -ld /var/log/qmail/smtpd
drwxr-x---  2 qmaill root 4096 Jul 29 12:30 /var/log/qmail/smtpd/

and also check /etc/qmail and /etc/tcp.smtp and don't forget
qmail.init which should be placed inside 

/usr/local/sbin/qmail and if needed inside /etc/rc.d/init.d/qmail
