Attorney General Merrick Garland testified for nearly five hours on the 
Justice Department's mission and policies during an oversight hearing 
before the House Judiciary Committee. Lawmakers engaged with the 
attorney general on a number of topics including an October memo he  
issued concerning threats against school boards across the nation, the 
prosecution of January 6 Capitol attack defendants, combating gun  
violence, the opioid epidemic and the importance of an independent
Justice Department.
