Attorney General Testifies on Justice Dept. Oversight
Attorney General Merrick Garland testified on oversight of the Justice 
Department before the House Judiciary Committee. Several Republican 
members grilled Attorney General Garland on whether or not he has 
interfered in U.S. Attorney David Weiss' investigation into President 
Biden's son, Hunter Biden. Mr. Garland repeatedly rejected these 
accusations and said, "I am not the president's lawyer." The attorney 
general also emphasized he has continued to support Attorney Weiss -- 
who was originally appointed by former President Trump -- including 
appointing him as special counsel upon Mr. Weiss' request. Several 
Democratic members criticized Republicans' handling of the hearing and, 
along with Republican Rep. Ken Buck (CO), defended Mr. Garland's 
record. Other topics included the fentanyl crisis, gun violence, and 
other allegations pertaining to the Biden family.
